NEW VIDEO: The Shirtless Guys On The Flyer Will Never Be At The Party!

Photo on 4-7-14 at 3.32 PM #5

Last week, I took to both of my FACEBOOK pages, HERE and HERE, to offer a little ‘public service announcement’ of sorts. In fun, I made a post to all of the party circuit newcomers about the flyers that are designed to lure patrons into the various events that take place in and around the major cities. Basically, I was sharing the fact that the sexy, muscular, shirtless ‘types’  that are graphically positioned on the promo flyers, are never actually in attendance of the party. When I first hit the scene in 2001, it took me a little while to catch on to the fact that the caliber of dudes who came out to the various functions, rarely looked as polished and ‘Ken-like’ as the men who were used on the 4×6 glossies.

It was maybe Thursday or Friday of last week where I received a notification in my inbox that displayed people still ‘liking’ and commenting the status message. As I began to think about the little disclaimer, it took me back to a period in my life where I was more drawn to the ‘party flyers’ and what they represent, than I was to my romantic relationship.

In the BELOW POSTED NEW VIDEO via the OFFICIAL XEM VANADAMS YOUTUBE CHANNEL, I discuss one of my coming of age experiences circa 2004. I detail the lessons I learned, before encouraging my younger and more impressionable viewers to make wiser decisions.

Xemmy Dances To ‘Gust Of Wind': Pharrell ft. Daft Punk

GustOfWind

Everyone has clearly been talking about the latest music to be lifted from Pharrell’s forthcoming, sophomore album, GIRL. I began streaming the ten track release late last night once iTunes made the songs available for early listen. My favorite from the project so far is the Daft Punk collabo, GUST OF WIND. Those of you who follow me faithfully via Twitter and Facebook already know that the track has been on constant replay for the past 18 hours or so.

Earlier today, as I was preparing to head out, I decided to record myself dancing to the song. However, the AUDIO and VISUAL are not synced properly. As I have now discovered, many other consumers have also experienced this exact issue while recording directly from their MACS; utilizing the iMovie software. I was initially going to scrap the idea of sharing the video publicly, but since it was done in fun, Ive elected to post it for you.

I LOVE THIS RECORD SO MUCH and I sooo can not wait until the entire album hits shelves next Tuesday, March 3, 2014.

28 Reasons To Hug A Black Guy

Hugging

Last night on the long running comedy series, Saturday Night Live, the ‘black cast members’ performed a two and half minute sketch that attacked race relations in a unique fashion. Kenan Thompson, Jay Pharaoh and newcomer, Sasheer Zamata, acted as students in a high school classroom.

In honor of February’s ‘Black History Month’, the trio stood in front of their white peers to give their group presentation. The surface outcome is hilarious on both the ends of the performers, as well as the receivers. However, it’s the underlying issue of racial tension in America that makes the skit intriguing.

During Black History Month and within the structure of most elementary and intermediate Social Studies courses, slavery becomes the central focus of the African American experience in this country. Children and pre teens aren’t taught that black people were kings, queens, mathematicians, engineers and rulers of their own kingdoms before being captured and brought into this country. As far as our history is told in textbooks and between classroom walls, our lives began as slaves. This falsehood creates a division between race lines. Some blacks grow up feeling that white people should empathize with their everyday struggles solely because of slavery. Some whites grow up feeling guilty at the hands of what their ancestors may have contributed towards enslaving black people.

Keenan, Jay and Sasheer deliver this social truth in such a way that allows the audience to laugh. However, the larger statement that is being made about racial guilt forces the viewer to think…

I’m Dating You NOT Your Friends!

NotFriends

In life, we sometimes find ourselves in situations where the person we’re dating, is severely attached to their friends. Most of us appreciate meeting the individual who enjoys occasionally going out with their homeboys or girlfriends, as opposed to sitting in our faces every day. However, it’s the guy who feels the need to always have his ‘lonely friend’ or ‘troubled boy’ around often, that seems to ruin the peace in our relationships.

Most longterm friendships exist in such a way where one individual is always the strength or ‘hero’ for the other. It then becomes ‘just our luck’ that we meet and begin catching feelings for that hero type. He wants to save everyone around him by nurturing their hearts and protecting their feelings. These qualities initially draw us towards this man, romantically. Then, it becomes increasingly difficult to deal with the fact that this man is so nurturing and guarding of others feelings. The problem is that he won’t say NO to his friends. He allows his homeboys to come over to his place on Sunday afternoons when the two of you were supposed to chill quietly and fix lunch together. This man agrees to let his friend tag along on outings after the two of you have planned a special date night together. He feels obligated to be present for his friends around the clock, and its really taking a toll on your comfort level within the relationship.

SAY SOMETHING TO HIM THE SECOND TIME. Its perfectly okay in initially agreeing to have the broken hearted friend come over to watch a movie with you and your boo. Especially if you’ve already met and bonded with the homeboy, never be insensitive to his troubled times by initially saying that you don’t want him around. However, be sure to encourage your date the NEXT TIME to set boundaries between his friendships and the relationship that the two of you are trying to develop. It is very difficult getting to know someone intimately when other individuals are constantly present. Your date has to be man enough to let his friends know that the time he is spending with you is private and separate from the time he dedicates to them. Otherwise, these individuals who are so use to your date being single and all of the time available, aren’t going to respect your presence. It’s often not malicious or intentional behavior on their part. Friends simply become comfortable with how things were BEFORE you entered the picture.

Before your attitude, mood and demeanor rubs the friends negatively, tell your date that his friends do not need to engage in all of your coupled activities. Be sure that you’re nice and considerate of his feelings when you express yourself. After all, he considers his friends to be a part of an extended family unit. The friends were present before you met the date and will more than likely be in his life should the two of you decide to part ways.

Please WATCH the below posted video. It’s HILARIOUS! I’ve posted it via my Twitter and Facebook pages, previously. The short clip stars my friend, Nikiva Dionne @NikivaDionne. She’s an actress who lives and performs in Los Angeles, California. This video sums up the root of this post.

Embarrassing Video Footage Of Xem VanAdams: September 15, 2000

OH MY GAWD! I actually remember recording this particular video 14 years ago, but I don’t remember the inspiration or purpose behind it. *LMAO* I had just gotten out of the shower and was sitting in my bedroom. This was maybe the second or third day that I was filming with my very first video camera. It was the BIG one where you would actually insert a VHS tape inside of the deck.

I cringed watching this clip moments ago, as its clear just how corny and obnoxious I am for the entire 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Im sharing the clip with you all because I think it’s important that you see tid bits of who I was in comparison to who I’ve become. I definitely see similar personality traits, facial expressions and interests. To this day, Lenny Kravitz’s ‘It Aint Over Til It’s Over’ remains my favorite song of all time. That’s the song playing in the background. Otherwise, this particular video is slightly funny, but rather uuuuuugh

WHO in the world was I talking about when I referenced, ‘my manager’ wanting me to remake Lenny’s music? LORD. Ladies and gentlemen, this is me in the youthful flesh. SMH.

Fem Queen Vogue Star: Katrina Ebony

KatrinaEbony

Many of you who have followed my online platform over the past 6 years, are well aware of the fact that I am a major supporter of the Ballroom community. I began studying about houses and ballroom culture in my senior year of college after my senior thesis film professor introduced me to Jennie Livingston’s ‘Paris Is Burning’. I attended my first MAJOR ball in Baltimore, MD during the summer after I graduated from college. I have enjoyed the scene ever since. In the past ten years that I have attended balls in DC, New York and Atlanta, I have always been fascinated by the Fem Queens (transgender women). Im very much intrigued by their stunning beauty, curves, femininity and overall, eccentric nature.

In 2013, KATRINA EBONY truly began to transition and evolve into her womanhood. Her status amongst the ballroom circuit has skyrocketed as her fem queen vogue performances have stunned audiences across the country. Katrina is considered to be one of the fairly ‘new girls’. However, her performances are quickly being hailed by ballroom Legends and Icons as the new standard. Katrina’s confidence and poise on the ballroom floor gives her a certain ‘IT’ factor above her contemporaries. She vogues soft and dramatic when the moment calls. Lately, whenever Im surfing through the amazing videos filmed by Ceasar of BallroomThrowbacks, Im zoned into the new clips that surface of Katrina.

EVERYONE seems to be well versed in the art and performance of Mother Leyomi Prodigy. However, there are indeed other talented ladies on the scene who are putting the crowds on notice. Get into Miss. Katrina Ebony, below…

My Boyfriend Is The Bait: Poppa & Redd Balenciaga – Beneath The Surface

XemSaysBaitPromo
On Sunday, December 29, 2013, I met Poppa and Redd Balenciaga at the home of Father Harold Balenciaga. During our 45 minute sit down, this young, black, same-sex couple openly discussed the intimacies of their romantic relationship. We tapped into the challenges they face trying to stay together in an environment that promotes separation, ways in which social media affects their bond, the non-conventional role that the House Of Balenciaga serves in their individual and coupled lives VS. the structure of their biological families, as well as the everyday, behind-closed-door routine that allows them to remain united.

THESE ARE THE IMAGES AND INTERACTIONS that the world needs to witness as it pertains to gay men of color. Instead of the one-dimensional caricatures that are painted across reality television, its time that our love stories and real life tales are featured in mainstream media. Poppa and Redd represent the many black, gay men around the world who aren’t accurately represented in scripted or non-scripted television. I am proud of them both for being candid on camera and opening their lives to every young, middle aged and older being who are unable to walk into a movie theater or turn a channel to see this TRUTH on a daily basis.

PLEASE NOTE that in the past six years that I have recorded, edited and released videos publicly, I have never faced as many technical issues than the problems that were involved in creating this particular project. While I fully stand behind the content included in the below posted 32 minute clip, I am not 100% satisfied with the quality of the actual video footage. The release of this particular interview was delayed for several reasons following the initial promotion. The interview wasn’t lit properly during filming. As a result, the footage digitized very dark. The programs and software that I usually use to edit my videos would not brighten the footage without disrupting the contrast or quality of the original visuals. Though Poppa and Redd both agreed to a rerecording session, I decided not to reshoot. I was afraid that we would lose the authenticity of the conversation, as well as the natural, raw body language and interactions. The alternative was then to request the assistance of one of my right hands, Syrai VanAdams. He worked with me for HOURS to find and download editing software that would brighten my footage without making the visuals too grainy. This process took at least 4 days. Once the footage was enhanced, cut and edited with b-roll and music audio, the video file became too large to upload properly. Syrai VanAdams then spent an additional 3 days locating programs that would allow me to convert and compress the video file to a format that is accepted by Youtube. I have tried to remain patient during this process, as I realize that I am still being tested. I decided to release the edited video despite my dissatisfaction with the quality of the grainy footage. I love the story that Poppa and Redd share on camera regarding their individual lives, as well as their coupled relationship.

Just as with anything that I have ever publicly written or recorded since the dawn of 2007/2008, I hope my supporters will be inspired or entertained by this latest Xem VanAdams release.

NEW VIDEO: I Posted My Number On His 62week Old Instagram Pic

Yesterday morning, November 19, 2013, I released my 128th video via the official Xem VanAdams Youtube Channel. This time, I decided to sit in front of my camera and tell a story in the same ways in which I share the intimacies of my life with friends. I discussed a personal situation on camera; one that filled my life with a plethora of emotions over a four week time span. During this 30 minute segment, I detail the back and forth on-goings that occurred as I engaged alongside another young man.

MANY of you over the past 36 hours have already watched, commented, liked and shared this visual with your social media friends and followers. I am definitely receiving and reading all of your feedback. I appreciate the commentary, as I serve to inspire and learn from each of you. THANK YOU for always embracing me along this journey I travel. For as long as each of you continues to support my platform, I shall always share real, human stories. My purpose is to use my voice, as well as the written word to educate and entertain the masses.

I LOVE and appreciate you all. ~Xemmy
